If your OST file got damaged or
corrupted and you are facing synchronization problem with the exchange mailbox
then use OST integrity check tool or Inbox repair tool (scanost.exe) that will resolve synchronization
and damage issue of OST file.
Scanost.exe is inbuilt utility installed
on your computer when you install Microsoft outlook. This tool rebuilds the
header of data item and reset the file structure to repair the offline data
files.
Procedure
to execute Inbox Repair Tool (Scanost.exe)
Step 1: Close MS outlook and other
applications that are using it.
Step 2: Locate scanost.exe file using directory structure c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12
[Note: Directory structure is
different for different version of Microsoft Office and Operation System]
Step 4: If you setup outlook profile the
tool will prompt you to choose profile,
here select one profile from the profile name list that contain OST file you
want to check.
Step 5: Then you will be prompted to
connect or work offline, Click connect.
Step 6: Select the option according to
your scan preference if you want that tool will repair the error during scan
then Select repair error checkbox.
If you deselect this checkbox then tool will create a scan log but doesn’t make
necessary corrections.
Step 7: Click Begin Scan.
Step 8: To view the scan log open
outlook, Deleted items folder
contain scan log with subject ‘OST integrity check’. This inbox repair tool doesn’t
scan deleted items folder
Drawbacks of Inbox Repair Tool (Scanost.exe)
- It cannot handle major corruption issues of OST file
- This method is quite lengthier and involve the possibility of data loss as most of the bad header files get deleted
